In case of rain, CSA pickup change

Hi all,

Looks like a good chance of rain for this evening. If it is raining during market hours, we will be taking all of the boxes to Lindsey’s Culinary Market (save for the Oglethorpe Fresh pickup). If you are unfamiliar with the location, it is located at 1238 Prince Avenue in the same building as the paint store. Boxes will be there from 4-6.

If the rain never comes, we’ll be at the market from 4-7 as usual.

Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone,

This week we were busy weeding our summer crops, pulling up more garlic, and caging our outdoor tomatoes. It’s not quite summer yet, but the long, hot days of soaking through your clothes are here. Tonight we celebrated our dear friend Jim Mcbride, also known as “Blueberry Jim,” who passed earlier this week after living much longer than predicted. He was the first blueberry farmer at the Athens Farmers Market and his presence will surely be missed.

Cucumbers and squash are starting to grow like mad and we’ve added a mix of varieties for them as well as the potatoes. There’s still lots of variety; enjoy the offerings!

As always, pick-ups are at the downtown farmer’s market from 4-7, Lindsey’s Culinary Market on Prince Avenue from 4-6, and Oglethorpe Fresh in downtown Lexington from 4-6.

Have a happy and a healthy,

Cedar Grove Farm

Hi everyone,

New this week are potatoes, green garlic, mint, and red cabbage. We started digging up our garlic last week and it’s currently drying on the porch. Soon our entire porch will be covered. Right now the bulbs have not fully developed, so it has a much more mild flavor.

Next week we’ll have cucumbers and more cauliflower coming in soon.

Enjoy the harvest!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Sorry we are a little late tonight. We just finished a great dinner with Josh and Arielle from Savory Spoon in Jefferson. If you get a chance you should definitely check out Savory Spoon if for no other reason than what they do with the fresh produce from Cedar Grove Farm. Caitlyn is in Massachusetts this weekend being a Maid of Honor for her best friend since grade school, so I’m back with the announcement tonight.

The CSA is open. New this week are dill, cauliflower, Zephyr squash and Formosa savoy cabbage plus lots of the great tasting spring produce still coming in.

Enjoy the harvest.

Regards, Farmer jay

Hello everyone,

Things are starting to look different around here. The herb and beet beds have been replaced with tomato plants, the spinach and kale beds are now lined with pepper plants, and the kohlrabi and lettuce planting is now full of tiny basil plants. So it goes as we transition from spring to summer in our hoop houses.

The outdoor garden is still full of spring greens, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and a smattering of summer crops that are just starting like cucumbers, pole beans, okra, melons, corn, and squash. (We’ll have some early squash next week for you).

This week we’ve added everyone’s favorite salad turnip, lots of broccoli, and our first round of cabbages. Enjoy the offerings.

Have a happy and a healthy,

Cedar Grove Farm

CSA Availability for 5/14

Happy Mother’s Day, y’all. We just enjoyed a delicious meal here at the farm with family. There was kale salad, grilled squash and radishes, roasted root vegetables, grilled lamb and steak, key lime pie, and vanilla ice cream with coconut caramel sauce. We eat pretty well around here.

New this week are the scarlet queen turnips, which have a beautiful crimson skin and can be used raw in salads, as a quick pickle, or roasted with other root vegetables. There are lots of other goodies to choose from this week, so get your orders in!

Pick ups are Wednesdays at the downtown Athens Farmers Market from 4-7, Lindsey’s Culinary Market on Prince Avenue from 4-6, or at Oglethorpe Fresh in Lexington from 4-6.

Have a happy and a healthy,

Cedar Grove Farm

First CSA of the season! Availability for 5/7

Welcome to the first CSA of the spring season! We are so happy to be back and thankful for our new and returning customers. Spring is most definitely here; I can smell it’s fragrant blooms, the birds and bugs are back, and the weeds are coming on strong. We have been busy the last couple of months and it’s paying off in vegetable abundance. There are fourteen items this week including STRAWBERRIES, lots of kale, beautiful long stemmed rainbow chard, mustard greens, kohlrabi, and much more! Spring is my favorite time of year because of all the different colors and tastes it brings. There’s nothing like a beautiful, healthy meal to cure what ails you. I hope you all enjoy this week’s offerings.

Pickups are now on WEDNESDAYS at several locations, including:

1. The Athens Farmers Market from 4-7

2. Lindsey’s Culinary Market on Prince Avenue from 4-6

3. New this year for our customers in Oglethorpe County, the pickup spot is at Oglethorpe Fresh in downtown Lexington at 111 South Platt Street from 4-6
